Hello Fellow Elements!
Since you are here reading my blog you may want to know a little more about me.
So here you go:
All About Me:
All About Me:
- My name is Iron, but my nickname is Fe (don't ask why, its a long story)
- I am the 26th element on the periodic table
- My atomic number is 26
- My atomic mass is 55.845
- I have 26 protons, 26 electrons, and 30 neutrons
- I am a metal
- I am a transition metal
- I am a toxic heavy metal
- I am in period 4 on the periodic table
- I am a group 8 element
- My melting point is 1,538°C
- My boiling point is 2,862 °C
- I am in the solid state
My Physical and Chemical Properties:
The Physical Properties of Iron:
Color - Silver-gray (like a metal)
State of Matter - Solid
Luster - Can have a shine or glow
Conductivity - Can transmit heat or electricity
Ductility - Easily pulled or stretched to create a thin wire
Malleability - Can be shaped or bent
Freezing Point - 1,538 °C (same as it's melting point)
Melting Point - 1,538 °C
Boiling Point - 2,862 °C
Density - 7.874 grams per cubic centimeter

The Chemical Properties of Iron:
Chemical Formula - Fe
Solubility - Dissolves in acids
Oxidation - Combines with the oxygen in moist air to produce iron oxide a.k.a. rust
Toxicity - Non toxic
Reactivity with water - Reacts with hot water and steam (water and air) which produces hydrogen gas

I am in the chemical families of (transition) metals on the periodic table.
The Properties of Transition Metals Are:
- we can be shaped and bent easily
- we are (normally) tough, firm, and hard
- we are good electricity and heat conductors
- we can form coloured compounds
- we have high melting points (except mercury, you weirdo)
- we have high densities
- we are less reactive than out temperamental friends the alkali metals
I am also in period 4 and group 8 on the table.
Some Properties of Period 4 Elements:
- we are all stable (We are not going to just randomly combust like our friends the alkali metals and halogens)
- many of us are essential for you humans survival (calcium, zinc)
- most of us are found in or around the earth's core and crust
- most of us are extremely strong and can be used in industry (especially me!)
- most of us are a silver-grey colour
- we are surrounded by toxic elements
About Group 8 Elements:
There's not much to be said about group 8 elements. We are all so different and are not as interesting our more famous distant neighbors, groups 1,2,17,18. Although, I can say we are all metals.
On a Side Note: I am the supreme overlord (ruling) element in group 8!!!
Very cool!
